Summary
Traction
Welcome everyone!
I'm proud to inform you that we're finally starting to review the Kobe franchise, and we're doing so with Nike Kobe XIII.
Like always we will start with traction, and guess what, it's herringbone, my favorite kind of traction. It offers such an amazing grip both on indoor and outdoor courts, the only think that I didn't like on is the pretty loud squeaky noise that it gives off.
I wouldn't call that a con in this instance, but then again we're reviewing every aspect of this sneaker.

Cushion
For the first time on a review you'll see me actually compliment a Lunarlon cushion.
To you that have been following my reviews frequently you know how disappointed I was with Lunarlon on Nike Hyperdunk 2012 and Nike Hyperdunk 2013.
This time around the Lunarlon foam is a full length cushion and to be honest I'm kind of impressed this time, the thick layer of foam does a perfect job on impact distribution and all by sacrificing no responsiveness at all.
That's a great advantage, especially for quick guards such as myself. Nike did a fantastic job on this one.
Material, Support & Fit
Alright so the materials of this shoe consist of Engineered mesh and rubber outsole, not to mention the heel clip made of a glass base and carbon fibers to ensure maximum support.
The engineered mesh is pretty amazing due to it's light weight making Kobe VIII one of the lightest shoes ever released by Nike and not to mention the large amount of ventilation offered by this amazing technology (I mean who would like smelly feet, am I right?)
Even though Kobe VIII is a low top shoe, the support that it offers is impeccable. The reason behind that is the wide shoe base and the carbon fiber heel clip mentioned on the above.
The wide base and heel clip are one thing, but one more thing that contributes to the support that this sneaker provides to it's wearer is the fit. This shoe has a true 1:1 fit which barely gives and empty spaces ensuring total lockdown with no drawbacks in support nor comfort.
Pros and Cons
- Herringbone traction with perfect grip
- Excellent 1:1 Fit
- Amazing colorways
- Plenty of Ventilation
- Lightweight
- Premium materials
- Great support
- Fantastic impact absorption from Lunarlon cushion
-
- Squeaky noise (If you can call it a con)
- Traction will be consumed rather quickly on outdoor courts
- Lunarlon bottoms out quickly
Bottom Line
This shoe barely lacks at anything, the traction is simply fantastic, the impact protection given by Lunarlon is also amazing, the way the materials and fit intertwine to ensure maximum ankle support is simply excellent.
All in all this shoe performs amazingly well, especially for fast guards and I'll step out of line and call it second to none, but...
No, you would not want to buy this shoe as it is fairly old...
This shoe was indeed second to none back on 2012, but right now you will want to spend your money buying the newer models, whether they are Kobe or other stars signed by Nike.

That'll be all for now. As always, thank you guys for your time, and until next time, see ya!
