Nike Paul George 1

Statistics

*Please take these numbers with a grain of salt as these are stats that I came up with from my experience, it doesn't mean that you shall have the same results*

Summary

Hello everyone and welcome to an other review.

Today we'll be featuring the Nike PG line, this is a first for our site so sit tight and please enjoy.

Traction

Like always starting off with traction it is safe to say that PG-1 offers you one of the best traction patterns on it's release year.

With a rhombus omidirectional pattern lateral movement was never easier, it is indeed the perfect shoe for quick guards.

Now depending on the colorway it might be a solid color or translucent, if you have a specific preference on a colorway then by all means, go for it. If you're purchasing these shoes for the sake of performance only then I strongly suggest you to stay away from the translucent colorways as they are dust magnets and frequent wiping will be required.

Cushion

Alright so we've stumbled on my favorite section.

PG-1 features the good old fan favorite "Zoom" cushion. In our instance it's a Zoom pocket on the area of the forefoot, if you have the translucent colorway it will be fully visible to you.

The rest of the shoe relies on Phylon technology for impact protection which doesn't really work out that well thus giving the bare minimum of impact absorption.

On the other hand the shoe does offer an unreal amount of responsiveness and court feel, just like a mentioned above, the perfect choice for a quick guard.

Material

Since PG-1 is a signature shoe, like most of them it does have premium materials as well.

It consist of a combination of Mesh and Fuse overlays giving the shoe a good deal amount of durability  and breathability.

The Fuse overlays give out a huge boost in durability as they protect the mesh from tearing.

Some colorways are made of different materials, for example the Black Ice colorway is made of Nubuck.

Short story is that Nubuck is a fine leather grain from cattle. The outer side of the skin is sanded to produce a napped surface. Read more about Nubuck here.

The insole of PG-1 is made of Ortholite foam, a breathable eco-friendly material that is used in the majority of the shoes in today's market.

Support & Fit

The PG-1 on the Paul George series is designed to fit like a glove, according to Nike it is supposed to be true to fit without any issues.

Like most reviewers, I can safely say that the information is incorrect. This shoe runs narrow, especially on the forefoot area. If you're a wide-footer I do suggest to go up half a size for better fit.

This shoe has a one-bootie construction is supposed to make the shoe fit like a glove just like a mentioned above, and if that's not enough there's four lace loops to increase the lookdown and support on the shoe ensuring a secure hold on your feet.

But wait, there's more!

If what mentioned above is not enough there' also a strap on the forefoot which is a huge plus for people with narrow feet, you can adjust the tightness of the strap ensuring maximum lockdown.

Pros and Cons

  • Amazing Lockdown
  • Great support
  • Amazing combination of premium materials
  • Value for money (110$ retail price)
  • Marvelous responsiveness but at the cost of impact protection
  • Great grip ensuring safe lateral movements (Solid sole colorways)

     -

  • Narrow forefoot, widefooters must go up half a size
  • Translucent colorways are dust magnets
  • Little to no impact protection

Bottom Line

Alright so we've reached the end, and it's about time to come to a conclusion.

If you're a frequent visitor you'll know that I bash the hell out of shoes with a bad score, yet this one had a good review comparing to the score-chart that you see far above.

When you score a shoe you must keep in mind how it compares to it's competitors, the price, time of the release ETC.

PG-1 is not that old but it has 3 successors which will have their own reviews in the future, it has a price of 110$ which is without a doubt the greatest value for money deal you could get back on it's release date and many more features that contribute to the review that I gave this shoe.

Now, the big question that is always asked in the end of every review, do I want to purchase this?

Back on it's release? Without a doubt it would be a yes.

Today? There are other shoes a lot lot better than this one including the successors on the Paul George signature line. I'm affraid we'll give it a no.

~

That'll be all for now. As always, thank you guys for your time, and until next time, see ya!

Stay tuned for more!
